06. Amazing Sushi @ Ootanino

To say this was the best sushi we've ever had is an understatement. Ootanino was one of the best meals of any nature that we have ever had the privilege of tasting. Thanks to my buddy Buerge and his wife, we were able to get a reservation in this ultra-authentic, Michelin starred restaurant that only seats about 10 people, and has 3 seatings a day. All the patrons are regulars and friends of the chef, and needless to say we were lucky to get this opportunity as foreigners.

The menu is entirely omakase, and watching the chef prepare the meal was a masterpiece in itself. Each course was perfect and until now, I still haven't had anything that has come remotely close.

  • @grunt72 - I think the price was about $300 SGD per pax for an extended omakase set and lots of sake & beer. If you have a local friend to call and ask for a reservation that would be your best bet - I don't think it is easy or even possible for foreigners to go alone, and believe booking is super hard even for locals.

  • Watching the meticulous precision of the chef was mind boggling, it really makes one appreciate how seriously the Japanese take their food. And the effort pays off as well - the taste is like no other we had ever experienced.

  • Each course, such as this prawn sashimi, was prepared incredibly fresh. One moment the prawns were swimming about in a bowl, and literally under a minute later they were in our mouths.
