Great Food around Golden Mile Complex

There are loads of great places to eat around my office at Golden Mile Complex. These are some of the venues that I enjoy the most.

  • Vietnamese Beef Noodles @ Mrs. Pho $10.00

    avg. per pax
    349 Beach Road, Singapore 199570
One of the only places to get Vietnamese pho noodles in the area, Mrs. Pho occupies a fairly narrow shop space but is always packed to the brim at lunchtime. The menu is simple and fairly priced - a typical bowl of pho starts at $7.90 and is enough to make a lunch. Add in a nice Saigon Salty Lemonade or homemade yogurt drink at $2 and you've got yourself a great lunch at $10.

  • Salads @ SunMoon $5.40

    salad w/ 5 toppings
    371 Beach Road #01-11/12, Keypoint, Singapore 199597
SunMoon doesn't look like much at a first glance - a humble little corner stall with boxes of fruits scattered about the sidewalk - however the usual queue tells a different story. The usual deal is $5.40 for a salad, 5 premium toppings, and your dressing of choice. The premium toppings include favorites such as cherry tomatoes, pasta, strawberries, crutons, carrots, all sorts of fruits, and even avocadoes. Adding in a some meat costs about $2 more.

The salads here are simple, good, and a phenomenal value, especially compared to other salad places in the CBD which easily cost upwards of $10-15. Nothing else in the area can compete with a quick and cheap option to take back and eat in your office.

They also have outlets around the CBD at Chevron House #B1-02, Tanjong Pagar Plaza #01-24, 114 Telok Ayer Street, and International Plaza #01-12.

  • Hawker Stalls @ Golden Mile Food Centre $5.00

Hawker Centres are a signature part of Singaporean food, and the Golden Mile Complex has the benefit of having a few great food courts within a short walk. The biggest of these is just across the street - the Golden Mile Food Centre is a 2-storey haven for hawker lovers, containing every imaginable food or drink option from traditional Singaporean stalls, western stalls, juice stalls, and even pastry/dessert stalls. The variety is amazing and well beyond many other hawker centres I've visited, and of course the prices are great compared to restaurants - you'll be fully satisfied on a $5-10 budget.

  • Thai Food @ Golden Mile Complex $10.00

    avg. per pax
Golden Mile Complex, 5001 Beach Road, Singapore 199588
The first few floors of Golden Mile Complex feels a lot more like Bangkok than it does Singapore, with everything from convenience stores and grocery marts to restaurants having a major Thai theme. The audience fits the bill as well, with most staff as well as clientele being authentic natives from Thailand.

There are many Thai restaurants in the building, with Diandin Leluk being our favorite by far (#01-67, the big restaurant in the centre of the ground floor, next to the stairwell). The runner up would be Beerthai House Restaurant, which is located in the back corner of the building's ground floor (through the corridor on the right if you are facing Diandin Leluk). Both options have bang-for-your-buck $5 rice and meat plates for a quick and cheap option, as well as a plethora of ala-carte dishes suitable to be shared between groups of 2 or more.

There are also a number of mookata (Thai BBQ) restaurants on the ground floor, but those seem to be priced in the $15-20 range.

  • Shawarma @ House of Kebab $12.90

    21 Arab Street, Singapore 199844
House of Kebab on Arab street offers a great shawarma if you're in the mood for something different. They have 3 rotating spit grills for their meat - with choices of chicken, lamb, or beef - as well as a variety of condiments and sauces to choose from. You can get the shawarma ala-carte for $8, or make it a meal at $12.90 to include a can of soda as well as a side of fries.

  • Berg's Burger $20.00

    avg. per meal
    10 Haji Lane, Singapore 189203
One of the few places dedicated to burgers in the area, Berg's Burger on Haji Lane provides a great option for those looking for a big, satisfying burger in a casual and comfortable setting. A typical burger will set you back roughly $15, and you can upsize it or make it a meal with fries and a drink by topping it up a bit. In addition to the classic burger options, Berg's offers a few more adventurous flavors not typically associated with burgers.

  • Aston's Specialties $15.00

    avg. per pax
    371 Beach Road #01-17, KeyPoint, Singapore 199597
Aston's isn't exactly hip, local, nor unique to the Golden Mile area, but it still offers a great lunch option for those looking for western food in a casual yet nice setting. The popular franchise offers affordable meal options in the $10 range that come with your choice of 2 sides. Of course, those looking for more choice cuts of meat can easily go into the $20 price point and beyond.

  • Indian Food @ Yummy Punjaby $10.00

    2 Pahang Street, Singapore 198604
Yummy Punjaby is a humble streetside restaurant in Kampong Glam that isn't about the glitz and glamour but rather good and affordable Indian cuisine. The 'Star Value Meals' rotate daily at $8.50 (available during lunch time on weekdays), while the 'Super Star Meals' offer your choice of stuffed paratha and a side dish. Topping up $2 gets you your choice of drink, such as mango lassi or fresh lime soda.

  • Sandwiches & Salads @ The Hangar $20.00

    (1 vote)
    avg. per meal
    25 Arab Street, Singapore 199724
The Hangar is a fantastic hipster joint that gives a great chilled out vibe to escape from the hustle and bustle of tedious office work. Pav, the owner, fits into the scene perfectly and oozes passion for creating cool hangouts and brewing amazing coffee - so much, in fact, that he's successfully launched his own Sexy Coffee brand which is being carried by numerous outlets island-wide.

The menu is full of hilarious options, with brunch options like 'Stoner Surprise' and 'Wake and Bake' in addition to wholesome sandwiches and salads. The signature here, however, is their drinks - which include a wide range of specialty coffees you've never heard as well as a number of nice smoothies.
