Singapore date ideas - Telok Ayer

Singapore date ideas - Telok Ayer

Within short walking distance of the city centre, Telok Ayer has become an increasingly established post work hangout with numerous bars and restaurants filling the terraced shop houses for which it is famous. Though not pedestrianised, the wide pavements allow for a street-side culture which quickly transports you away from the more clinical nature of the numerous office blocks surrounding this district.

  • Pre-dinner drinks - My Awesome Cafe

    202 Telok Ayer
Situated in the old Chung Hwa Free Clinic building, the entrance to this cafe-come-bar is open and welcoming. The layout is simple and rustic providing an easy-going feel and charm. The drinks menu is not cluttered but provides a good depth of beer and cider alongside the house wine options. The staff are friendly and attentive while the atmosphere is energetic. A great venue for pre-dinner drinks on a first date and you shouldn't need to book in advance.

  • Dinner - Moosehead Kitchen & Bar

    110 Telok Ayer
A three minute walk from My Awesome Cafe, you'll find Moosehead tucked away at the end of Telok Ayer closest to the MRT. While the exterior and entrance is modest, the interior is edgy and hip with a welcoming ambiance. I love the simplicity of their food menu and its focus on sharing. The Burratina and Tomatoes are a great way to kick-start what promises to be an excellent meal. The atmosphere is cosy, with an intimate vibe and mood lighting which couples well with their Indie playlists. Be sure to book in advance as there is limited seating. They tend to operate on the basis of an early evening and late evening sitting particularly for busy nights of the week.

  • After-dinner cocktails - Jigger and Pony

    101 Amoy Street
A two minute walk from Moosehead onto Amoy Street and you'll reach the unpretentiously lit glass door entrance to Jigger and Pony. What awaits inside is an electro-swing fueled venue combining an energetic atmosphere with a cocktail list which will absorb you in its traditions and variety. There are various seating options from the relatively intimate sofa booths to a seat at the heart of the action in front of the bar. The staff here are really friendly and excellent practitioners in the art of cocktail making. If you're wanting to base yourself in a particular area of the cocktail bar then it is best to book in advance.
