Day out at Ria Bintan Golf Course

Day out at Ria Bintan Golf Course

While there are plenty of great golf courses in Singapore, one of the fifty best courses in Asia is located just across the Singapore Strait on the island of Bintan. If you're a keen golfer, I recommend heading over on a day trip for 36 holes. The package which includes the ferry and transfer to the golf course is SGD 268 per person.

  • Ferry to Bintan and back - Tanah Merah Terminal

    Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal
When booking your golfing package through Ria Bintan Golf Course, you will not need to book the ferry separately since it is included in the deal offered. The ferry crossing takes approximately one hour and you should aim to reach the terminal 45mins before departure.

Ferry's depart for Bandar Bentan Telani (Bintan) from the Tanah Merah ferry terminal in Singapore at the following times: 08:10, 09:10, 11:10, 12:10, 14:00, 17,00, 20:00.

Return ferry departures from Bandar Bentan Telani (Bintan) at the following times on a Saturday or Sunday (Bintan time - 1hr behind SGT): 08:35, 11:35, 14:35, 15:35, 17:35, 20:15.

  • Transfer to Ria Bintan Golf Course

    Ria Bintan Golf Course
On arriving at Bandar Bentan Telani ferry terminal, you will be greeted by a member of the Ria Bintan staff who will fast-track you through customs (USD15 for your on arrival visa) to the bus arranged for your direct transfer. You needn't worry about your golf clubs since they will be collected on your behalf and delivered to the course. It is worth loading up at the ferry terminal with a crate of beers since this will save you from the inflated prices at the golf course itself.

The transfer to the golf course takes approximately 20 minutes.

  • Teeing-off

    Ria Bintan Golf Course
It is best to get the early ferry to Bintan with a view to getting out onto the Ocean Course in front of the other golfers. You will likely be in for a slow round if you end up as one of the last groups to tee off on the first hole since the course management doesn't vet for playing abilities. A buggy and caddy per pairing is the norm.

  • The Ocean Course

    Ria Bintan Golf Course
There are 27 holes on the Ria Bintan Golf Resort, made up of the Ocean Course (18 holes) and the Forest Course (9 holes). The Ocean Course is the signature layout and provides for a number of stunning backdrops as you approach the turn.

  • Lunch at the Club House

    Ria Bintan Golf Course
The club house is a grand looking facility and has a comfortable seating area which looks out over the Ocean Course. Notoriously expensive, it none-the-less provides a good spot to grab a quick bite to eat between rounds. I'd recommend their local signature dishes with the Beef Rendang being my personal favourite.

  • The Forest Course

    Ria Bintan Golf Course
Less spectacular than the Ocean Course, the Forest Course makes for an excellent 9 hole test and includes a couple of great looking holes. It is maintained to pretty much the same high standards as the Ocean Course and is well worth jumping onto for a evening 9 holes.
