My Favorite Hong Kong Food

My Favorite Hong Kong Food

Hong Kong, being a short 4 hour flight from Singapore, is a regular destination for long weekends to visit friends and family. One of the main attractions is the amazing food - here are some of my favorites!

  • Entrecote Steak @ La Vache $258.00

    HKD (set meal)
48 Peel Street, Central, Hong Kong
John and Rachel took us here for some steak frites / entrecote steak and it was easily our favorite meal of the trip. The concept is simple, $258 HKD for a great steak and free flow fries. By far the best entrecote steak I've had, with a generous and very flavorful portion of steak and the fries were shoestring and crispy. I think we had at least 2-3 extra servings. Comes with a salad too.

  • Tsui Wah

Pretty much any street corner in Hong Kong
I would be surprised if anyone under 40 ever made a trip to Hong Kong and didn't eat at least one meal at Tsui Wah. My personal favorites are the Malaysian Curry Beef Brisket and Crispy Buns w/ Condensed Milk. While it can be considered as 'fast food', it never lets me down and I'm never opposed to grabbing some grub there.

  • Shabu Shabu Buffet @ Ushi Shabu $148.00

    HKD (buffet)
Shop 202, 2/F, Panda Place, Panda Hotel, 3 Tsuen Wah Street
Chanced upon this shabu shabu buffet in Panda Hotel during a stay there with my family, and oh boy did that work out well. We were all waiting to try it out for days, and it didn't disappoint. The 90 minute buffet is more than sufficient to eat everything you want, and the quality of beef is VERY good - just look at the photos. We went for the Japanese Supreme Wagyu / Pork Set and didn't regret it one bit.

Icing on the cake is $20 HKD for unlimited Asahi beer and Somsersby apple cider. I have no idea how they make money on that, since the price is a fraction of what those drinks cost in Singapore per can! Even if you don't opt for the free flow alcohol, soft drinks / Jolly Shandy / ice cream is included in the buffet price.

The location is a bit out of the way, but if you're in the area definitely try it out!

  • Dim Sum @ Cuisine Cuisine, IFC

3101-3107, Podium Level 3, IFC Mall, Central
My aunt & uncle arranged a dim sum for the family on the last day of our trip, and this was the epitome of 'save the best for last'. Everything about the meal was perfect - a picturesque unobstructed view of Hong Kong, great service, and amazing food. A lot of the typical dishes like roast goose, liu sha bao, and egg tarts were wayyy better than other places, and some of the more unique things like the truffled fried taro were a great addition to the meal.

Will definitely try to come back the next time I'm in the country.

  • Portuguese Egg Tart @ Macau Restaurant $9.00

    (1 vote)
    HKD per piece
Shop A, G/F., Siu Ming Mansion, No. 477-481 Jaffe Road, Causeway Bay
These Portuguese Egg tarts are literally the first and last thing I eat in Hong Kong on just about every trip. At $9 HKD a piece, I rarely buy any less than 5 at a time and even then it may not be enough. Hands down my favorite food - snack or otherwise - in Hong Kong and the first thing I think of when I touch down at the airport.

A great hot pot buffet, with nice quality beef and FREE FLOW HAAGEN DAZ ice cream!! Definitely one of my favorite places to visit every time I'm in Hong Kong. Oh yeah, the price includes free flow of drinks too, which also offers Jolly Shandy and Beer. Can't get much better than this for hot pot lovers!

I think they have multiple branches, but here is the Causeway Bay link http://www.openrice.com/english/restaurant/sr2.htm?shopid=48867

  • Taiwanese Food @ Odeon Taiwanese Cafe

Shop 6, 1F, PJ Plaza, 23-36 Paterson St, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong
I discovered and fell in love with the 3 cup chicken (san bei zhi) dish here and have yet to find another place that serves a comparable offering. It is right down the street from John's place in Causeway Bay so the location is very convenient; the restaurant is casual and the prices are good too. Who doesn't love Taiwanese food?
