Best Credit Cards for Airline Miles in Singapore

Best Credit Cards for Airline Miles in Singapore

In Singapore, you can get 4 miles / S$ on just about all of your spending if you use the right credit cards in the right situations, or 1.6 miles / S$ if you're lazy and just want a one card solution. Here are the best cards to accrue miles for your luxury trips.

  • DBS Woman's World MasterCard $4.00

    miles / S$
Earns 4 miles / S$ on any online purchases, limited to the first $2,000 SGD per calendar month. This has a lot less restrictions compared to the UOB Preferred Platinum Visa, so it can be used for stuff like travel. However, the best use of this card is to top up prepaid cards (e.g. AMEX IMAGINE, FEVO, or M1 Prepaid MasterCard) which counts as online spend, and they can then be used anywhere else since you already earned your miles.

Make sure you get the WORLD MasterCard (Gold color) and not the regular teal Woman's MasterCard.

Earn Rate: 4 miles / S$ on online spending
Minimum Income: $80,000 / year for Singaporeans
    Annual Fees: $192.60 / year

  • Prepaid Credit Cards (IMAGINE, FEVO, M1) $4.00

    (1 vote)
    miles / S$ (** T&C)
There are 3 major prepaid credit cards in Singapore, which all work similarly. You purchase the prepaid card for few bucks and top it up via another credit card, then use the prepaid balance as you would a debit/credit card. This compliments the DBS Woman's World MasterCard, which earns 4 miles / S$ on online spend (including prepaid card topups). Since you earned the miles at topup, you can proceed to use the prepaid cards anywhere that you can't get 4 miles / S$ with another card.

The 3 major cards are the AMEX Imagine, M1 Prepaid MasterCard, and FEVO MasterCard. The FEVO also lets you customize the card with your own photo, which is awesome!

UPDATE: the AMEX IMAGINE has been discontinued as of mid-2016.

    miles / S$
Earns 4 miles / S$ on any F&B spending, including fast food, dining at restaurants, or drinks at bars, and clubs; both locally and overseas. There is also no limit on the number of miles you can earn per month / year, coupled with the fact that food and drinks probably make up the majority of our spending, makes this my favorite card for miles.

*** DISCONTINUED: As of October 1, 2015, this card is no longer being issued. Any existing cardholders can still enjoy the 4 miles / S$, but no new applicants will be taken. ***

Earn Rate: 4 miles / S$ on dining & drinks
Minimum Income: $30,000 / year for Singaporeans
    Annual Fees: $192.60 / year

  • UOB PRVI Miles MasterCard / AMEX $2.40

    (1 vote)
    miles / S$ (foreign)
Both cards earn 1.4 miles / S$ locally, or 2.4 miles / S$ overseas, and include travel insurance (check T&C). A newly added feature is 3 miles / S$ on Singapore Airlines, SilkAir, and KrisShop purchases.

The AMEX version gets you a bonus 20,000 miles if you spend $50,000 SGD that year as well as a $45 one-way Changi Airport limo service rebate after spending $1k SGD overseas that quarter, but that may be offset by AMEX not being accepted everywhere.

This is a decent 'general use' card (especially overseas) if you just want one card to use and/or have exhausted 4 mile / S$ options, but locally you can get a lot more miles by thinking and planning a bit.

    Earn Rate: 1.4 miles / S$ locally, 2.4 miles / S$ overseas
    Minimum Income: $80,000 / year
    Annual Fees: $406.60 (MC) / $256.80 (AMEX)

  • [EXIPIRED] AMEX Krisflyer Ascend Card $4.80

    No votes yet
    miles / S$ (** T&C)
This card is only good for a single purpose: to spend $10,000 SGD within the first 3 months to earn 48,000+ miles. After that, NEVER USE IT AGAIN as it earns a dismal 0.83 miles / S$. The attraction is in the bonuses - 5k miles for the first charge, and 35k miles after spending $10k in the first 3 months.

Note that you'll need to pay the annual fee to get the bonuses, but you get 4x SATS / Plaza Premium lounge passes and a free night at a Millenium Hotel property worldwide, so it evens out.

Earn Rate: 48k miles for the first $10k (1 miles / $1.20 sustained)
Minimum Income: $50,000 / year for Singaporeans
    Annual Fees: $256.80 / year
